Promises to Tea Garden Workers Will Be Fulfilled: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

New Delhi, June 2: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met with Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday. The discussion focused on various agricultural issues.

During a media interaction, Sarma expressed gratitude to Chouhan for his support during the elections. He assured that the promises made to tea garden workers would be honored. The government plans to provide housing for these workers under the PM Awas Yojana.

Sarma highlighted Chouhan’s decades of administrative experience, noting that meetings with him are always enlightening. Together with officials from the central and Assam governments, they discussed ways to promote farmer welfare and implement all farmer-friendly policies of the ‘double-engine government’ at the grassroots level, ensuring that every farmer in Assam benefits.

The discussions included modernizing agriculture to make it more profitable. This involves mechanized farming, cold storage facilities, improved market access, utilizing the ‘Agriculture Infrastructure Fund,’ and deploying strong supply chain infrastructure.

He also mentioned the progress of Assam’s ‘Lakhpati Didi’ scheme, which has empowered nearly 4 million women to start and expand their businesses. This initiative is expected to have a significantly positive impact on the economy, particularly in rural areas.

Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan remarked that the sacred land of Maa Kamakhya is continuously setting new benchmarks for development. The recent historic victory in the assembly elections reflects the public’s trust, Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, and the state government’s developmental efforts. He emphasized that the journey towards a developed Assam will continue as they work together as a team. The central government remains fully committed to bringing positive changes to the lives of farmers, rural families, and youth through various initiatives linked to the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund, RKVY-Krishonnati Scheme, and rural infrastructure.
