New Delhi: To mark the completion of 1,000 years since the first major attack on the Somnath Temple in 1026, the ‘Somnath Swabhiman Parv’ is being organised from 8 to 11 January. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to participate in the event on 11 January. Union Home Minister Amit Shah shared a video on the social media platform X, showcasing the grandeur and significance of the Somnath Temple.

Amit Shah appealed to the nation to join the celebrations of the Somnath Swabhiman Parv, held in Somnath, Gujarat, between 8 and 11 January.

Symbol of Civilisational Immortality and Determination

In his post on X, the Home Minister described the Somnath Mahadev temple not only as a Jyotirlinga but also as an enduring heritage of Sanatan culture and spiritual pride. Despite facing numerous attacks over the past millennium, the temple has always risen again. It stands as a symbol of India’s civilisational immortality and unwavering spirit. Amit Shah noted that those who tried to erase its existence have vanished, but the temple today stands more magnificent than ever.

He further emphasised that the history of the Somnath Temple demonstrates that such attacks can harm temporarily but cannot erase the legacy. Every time it has been rebuilt with even greater splendour and divinity, reflecting the core nature of Sanatan culture.

Prime Minister’s Initiative to Inspire Future Generations

Home Minister Shah stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi decided to observe the Somnath Swabhiman Parv on the occasion of 1,000 years since the first attack, to convey the message of Sanatan culture’s continuity and resilience to future generations.

Expressing his pride in being a trustee of this sacred temple, Amit Shah urged all citizens to participate in the festival, which includes various spiritual and social programmes within the temple premises from 8 to 11 January.

Enduring Legacy Amid Foreign Invasions

The video shared by Amit Shah illustrates the repeated attacks by foreign invaders on the Somnath Temple, attempts to loot and destroy it, and how the temple has consistently overcome these challenges. The Somnath Swabhiman Parv will feature year-round events in the temple town to celebrate this historic milestone and the temple’s sustained glory.

The Somnath Temple, revered as a Jyotirlinga, has been repeatedly attacked and reconstructed over the centuries, symbolising the undying faith and cultural strength of India.
