Chennai, May 4: Thol Thirumavalavan, the president of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), stated on Sunday that the DMK-led alliance is ready for a “heavy victory” in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
Speaking to reporters at Chennai Airport after returning from Bengaluru, Thirumavalavan based his assessment on extensive grassroots feedback gathered during the campaign. He directly interacted with voters in over 40 constituencies, indicating a strong wave in favor of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)-led alliance.
Thirumavalavan remarked, “Most post-election surveys indicate a clear victory for the alliance. While some surveys suggest alternative outcomes, the overall trend shows that the DMK will form the government independently and remain in power.”
He refuted criticisms aimed at VCK workers for not providing sufficient support to alliance partners in certain constituencies. “I only mentioned a few constituencies that needed improvement. Such comments are part of regular organizational feedback, but some are trying to exaggerate them to create confusion within the alliance. However, attempts to weaken the DMK alliance have not succeeded,” he stated.
The VCK leader also dismissed claims that Tamil Nadu could end up with a hung assembly or that actor-turned-politician Vijay could emerge as a decisive power center. He alleged that such narratives are being propagated by “right-wing groups” and betting syndicates aiming to influence public opinion.
Thirumavalavan noted, “Pre-election betting trends were in favor of the DMK. After voting, the focus shifted to Vijay. These are rumors spread by gambling syndicates, and the truth will only be revealed when the results are announced.”
He questioned statements made by a former police officer supporting Vijay, asserting that such views do not lend credibility to their claims.
Criticizing social media platforms, Thirumavalavan claimed they are exaggerating Vijay’s popularity. He compared him to former political figures like Vijayakanth, Vaiko, and S. Ramadoss, stating that the current level of online campaigning is unprecedented due to the rapid expansion of digital platforms.
He added, “Not all young people support Vijay. Many have voted against him. Social media often ignores dissenting opinions and presents one individual as a hero.”
