Lucknow, May 4: The Congress party has accused the BJP of using the Women’s Reservation Bill as a political weapon. Party MP Imran Pratapgarhi stated that the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam,’ passed in 2023, was merely a pretext.
In an interview with a news agency, Pratapgarhi remarked, “The BJP managed to pass the Women’s Reservation Bill, but it was just a facade. Their real intention was to alter the political landscape of India. The delimitation bill was the hidden agenda behind it. The opposition successfully thwarted that agenda, leading to embarrassment for the BJP.”
He further alleged that the BJP’s aim is not to deliver justice to women. If their intentions were genuine, they would not remain silent on the atrocities against women occurring in various parts of the country, including Hathras.
Congress leader Shakeel Ahmed added, “There was no opposition to the Women’s Reservation Bill. It was passed in 2023 and received committee approval. So why is the BJP hesitating to implement it?”
He questioned, “What issue does the BJP have with granting women their rights and representation? Why the delay? The bill they presented this time was actually about delimitation. Their goal was to redraw boundaries for their political advantage, particularly creating imbalances with southern states.”
Ahmed warned that the BJP aims to create unrest and confusion across the country through its politics of imbalance. Congress claims that instead of empowering women, the BJP seeks to exploit the new distribution of Lok Sabha seats through delimitation for political gain. The party argues that if the BJP were serious about women’s participation, they would not delay implementation so long after the bill’s passage.
