Delhi Metro Celebrates 32nd Foundation Day with New Corridors in the Pipeline

New Delhi, May 4: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) celebrated its 32nd Foundation Day on Saturday at the Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs, Tokhan Sahu, were the chief guests at the event.

The ceremony was attended by several senior officials, including Karthikithala Srinivas, Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and Chairman of DMRC, and Managing Director Dr. Vikas Kumar. During the event, DMRC also presented its annual awards, recognizing employees and teams for their outstanding contributions.

Sushma Yadav was honored as the ‘Metro Woman of the Year,’ while Harendra Kumar received the title of ‘Metro Man of the Year.’ The Lajpat Nagar Metro Station was awarded ‘Best Metro Station,’ and the Najafgarh Depot was recognized as the ‘Best Metro Depot.’ Rajesh Kumar Sharma received the Rajbhasha Award.

Senior officials from the Japanese Embassy and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) also attended the ceremony. DMRC stated that JICA has been a significant partner since the inception of the Delhi Metro project.

Union Minister Manohar Lal extended his congratulations to DMRC via a message, highlighting that since its ambitious launch in 2002, Delhi Metro has transformed urban transportation in India. He noted that over 1,150 kilometers of metro network is currently operational across 26 cities, with thousands of kilometers of new projects in various stages of construction and planning.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta mentioned that work is ongoing on the Phase-4 and Phase-5A corridors. She added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently dedicated two new metro corridors to Delhi and laid the foundation for three additional corridors, which are now under construction.

Gupta stated, “It’s great news for the people of Delhi that the metro is now preparing to launch seven new corridors under the Phase-5B expansion.”

Union Minister Tokhan Sahu remarked that this celebration marks not just a year of achievements but also a testament to the trust of millions in Delhi-NCR. He emphasized that India is rapidly changing, and Delhi Metro symbolizes this transformation.

DMRC noted that the event provided an opportunity to reflect on its journey, achievements, and future plans, reaffirming its commitment to providing safe, reliable, and environmentally friendly public transportation.
