Thiruvananthapuram, May 4: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor expressed confidence in the United Democratic Front’s (UDF) victory in the Kerala Assembly elections, citing exit polls. He stated that this time, the polls indicate a clear win for UDF.
Speaking to reporters, Tharoor remarked, “I believe there are many flaws in exit polls in our country, so I do not want to rely solely on them. However, this time, they all agree, which is remarkable. All the experts, journalists, and political analysts I have spoken to are unanimous that UDF will win this time.”
Tharoor elaborated on the process of government formation within Congress. He explained, “After the election results, there is a defined process. A representative from the party president meets with the winning legislators to gather their opinions and then reports back to the Delhi high command. The final decision rests with the high command. Yes, I agree that the most significant news on Monday will be that for the first time, the Left Democratic Front (LDF) will not be in power anywhere in the country.”
Regarding the West Bengal Assembly elections, Tharoor mentioned, “I think Mamata Banerjee will win, although she may not secure as large a majority as last time.”
Earlier, senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid expressed optimism about the party’s performance in the elections across five states and a union territory. He stated, “I will discuss this on Monday. I believe the results on May 4 will be better. It will be a good outcome, and the results will provide positive signals for the future.”
It is noteworthy that on May 4, the election results for four states and one union territory (West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry) will be announced.
