UP Weather Update: Scorching Heat to Persist, Monsoon Likely by June 20

UP Weather Update
Residents across Uttar Pradesh are facing a tough battle with extreme heat as the pre-monsoon showers have officially ended in most parts of the state. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for a sharp rise in temperatures over the next few days, bringing no immediate relief from the oppressive conditions. While the monsoon is expected to arrive later this month, the coming week is predicted to be particularly harsh.

5 Days of Intense Heat Ahead

According to the IMD, Uttar Pradesh is set to experience a prolonged heatwave, especially in major cities like Lucknow, Ghaziabad, and Kanpur. Clear skies, dry conditions, and direct sunlight are expected to push daytime temperatures up by 4 to 5 degrees Celsius. From June 6 to June 10, the state is likely to witness a complete absence of cloud cover, which will result in “fire raining from the sky” — a colloquial way to describe the sweltering intensity of the sun.

Citizens in western Uttar Pradesh have already begun adapting to the conditions, often seen carrying umbrellas or avoiding outdoor activity during peak hours. The morning sun itself is becoming unbearable, with ground temperatures climbing rapidly. The heatwave is also expected to affect eastern UP, causing widespread discomfort across the region.

No Rain in Sight Before June 10

The IMD has clarified that no rainfall or thunderstorm activity is expected over the next five days. With skies remaining completely clear, the land will absorb more heat, exacerbating daytime temperatures. The lack of pre-monsoon showers that usually offer temporary relief has only added to the woes of the public.

When Will the Monsoon Arrive in UP?

The question on everyone’s mind remains: When will the monsoon arrive in Uttar Pradesh? As per the latest IMD projections, monsoon winds are likely to reach the state by June 20. Currently, the monsoon has advanced into the northeastern states, including Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Manipur, where heavy downpours have already started. However, Bihar, like UP, is still awaiting monsoon’s arrival.

Once it reaches UP, the monsoon is expected to usher in widespread rainfall, which will not only bring respite from the searing heat but also play a crucial role in agriculture across the region.

Advisory for Residents

The Meteorological Department advises people across Uttar Pradesh to take the following precautions:

  • Avoid going out during peak sunlight hours, especially from noon to 4 PM.

  • Stay hydrated and consume plenty of fluids to prevent heatstroke.

  • Wear loose-fitting, light-colored clothing and use umbrellas or hats when outdoors.

  • Keep a close eye on local weather bulletins for updates on the monsoon’s arrival.

With temperatures climbing and no rain relief in sight for the next few days, residents must brace themselves for an intense spell of summer before the much-awaited monsoon showers provide relief.
