Beijing, May 14: This year, China is celebrating the 35th National Urban Water Conservation Awareness Week from May 10 to 16. Journalists learned from the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development that last year, the national use of urban recycled water exceeded 22 billion cubic meters, significantly reducing the gap between water supply and demand.
Recycled water is a type of water resource that meets essential quality requirements through proper treatment of wastewater, allowing for its reuse.
The Ministry reported that the national use of urban recycled water last year surpassed 22 billion cubic meters, establishing recycled water as a stable ‘second water source’ for cities and effectively mitigating the contradiction between water supply and demand.
In recent years, especially, China has made solid progress in urban water conservation. Regulations such as water supply regulations and water conservation rules have been implemented, providing a robust legislative guarantee for urban water supply and conservation.
By accelerating the construction of recycled water utilization facilities, strengthening leak control in water supply networks, and promoting the development of sponge cities, China has further improved urban water conservation and utilization efficiency, contributing to the intensive development of cities.
