Kolkata, May 14: Samik Bhattacharya, the West Bengal BJP president, responded to Mamata Banerjee’s recent move to approach the High Court regarding allegations of demolitions. He emphasized that the state is governed by the state government, not the BJP. In the past, the party and the government were aligned, but that is no longer the case.
Bhattacharya questioned, “Which bulldozer is operating in West Bengal? Where is it?” He reminded Banerjee of the numerous homes of BJP workers that were demolished by JCB machines during her tenure. He asserted that no one was spared, and the TMC had destroyed the houses of opposition members. “These incidents are now part of the past,” he stated.
He expressed a desire to move beyond these issues, focusing instead on investment, youth employment, and the welfare of farmers. Regarding the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), he mentioned that it will eventually be implemented in the state, but only the Chief Minister can specify when. “We can share the party’s perspective, but the government’s stance is different,” he added.
Bhattacharya noted that both Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and the cabinet members are aware of the party’s position. He assured that there is no hidden agenda. The government is focused on delivering public welfare schemes while also addressing issues related to polygamy and child welfare.
In a jab at Banerjee, who appeared in court as a lawyer, Bhattacharya quipped that he expected her to take her case to the International Court. He recalled the aftermath of the 2021 election results, where 57 BJP workers were killed and 27 women faced atrocities. “Where was the TMC during those times? We will not tolerate Mamata Banerjee’s theatrics,” he declared.
He concluded by stating that the rule of law is now prevailing and that people are laughing at her actions.
