Mumbai, May 14: In response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to citizens to reduce fuel consumption, the state government is implementing measures at various levels. On Thursday, during his visit to Nagpur, State Minister Ashish Jaiswal opted to leave his ministerial convoy and travel by metro from the ministry to Terminal 1 of Mumbai Airport.
During his journey, Minister Jaiswal emphasized the need for everyone to contribute to national interests and fuel conservation. He stated that this initiative goes beyond merely hearing Prime Minister Modi’s message; it is about putting it into action. “We are starting with ourselves,” he remarked.
He further noted that a decision has already been made to reduce the number of vehicles in the government fleet. “Whenever possible, I have always opted for metro travel. Today, I took the metro from the ministry to the airport. Increased use of public transport will save fuel and help reduce traffic congestion and pollution,” he added.
Minister Jaiswal also urged citizens to use public transport as much as possible. He stressed that the spirit of “Nation First” should not just be a slogan but should reflect in our actions. Citizens present at the metro station welcomed the minister’s decision.
It is noteworthy that Prime Minister Modi had previously urged citizens to minimize fuel consumption and to make greater use of public transport options like metros, carpooling, and electric vehicles. He also encouraged prioritizing domestic travel over purchasing gold and international trips.
