Mumbai, May 14: The 58th match of IPL 2026 is underway at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, featuring Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Mumbai Indians (MI). Jasprit Bumrah, the captain of MI, won the toss and chose to bowl first.
With Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav absent, Bumrah is leading the Mumbai Indians in this crucial match.
After winning the toss, Bumrah stated, “We decided to bowl first. We want to perform as well as we can. We have three matches left, and we want to enjoy them. Perhaps we can put some teams in a bit of trouble. Suryakumar is not here for personal reasons, and Allah is also not in the team.”
Bumrah smiled as he remarked, “I never expected to become the Test captain of India before leading the Mumbai Indians.”
Punjab’s captain, Shreyas Iyer, mentioned, “We would have opted to bowl first as well. The wicket looks a bit dry. We still don’t know how the pitch will play, so we are staying positive. We need to stop thinking about what went wrong and focus on maintaining good form and a positive mindset. Harpreet Brar, Javier Bartlett, and Azmatullah Omarzai have joined the team.”
Currently, Punjab Kings sit fourth in the standings with 13 points from 11 matches. After losing their last four games, they are in a precarious position and must secure a win to strengthen their chances of making the playoffs.
Mumbai Indians have already been eliminated from playoff contention, sitting ninth with just three wins from 11 matches. A victory would boost their confidence significantly.
