Meteorologist Dr. Divya E. Surendran said that a trough and a cyclonic circulation system are currently active. From August 13, a cyclonic circulation is likely to form over the north-west Bay of Bengal, which will become clearer within 24 hours and trigger another spell of rains. The heavy rainfall alert covers Sehore, Harda, Raisen, Narmadapuram, Betul, Narsinghpur, Chhindwara, Pandhurna, Seoni, Anuppur, Dindori, Mandla, and Balaghat, where up to 4.5 inches of rain may fall in the next 24 hours.

On Tuesday, Umaria recorded over 2.5 inches of rainfall, while Gwalior and Sidhi received more than half an inch each. Light rain was also recorded in Indore, Pachmarhi, Balaghat, Sagar, Rewa, Mandla, Dindori, Seoni, Maihar, and Damoh. The state’s average rainfall is 37 inches, with the current total standing at 29.7 inches — just 7.3 inches short of the target. So far, the state has recorded 6.6 inches more rainfall than normal, amounting to 23.1 inches above average.

Meteorologists predict that the second half of August will bring heavy rains until the month’s end. Many districts are expected to meet their rainfall quota within this month. Ten districts, including Gwalior, have already achieved their target, but the situation in Indore and Ujjain divisions remains below expectations. Meanwhile, Jabalpur, Sagar, Shahdol, and Rewa divisions have recorded 35% above-average rainfall, while the western parts — including Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Gwalior, Chambal, and Narmadapuram — have received 22% more rainfall than normal.
