Bhopal, May 18: The West Central Railway is making strides to improve rail operations on the Itarsi-Bhopal-Bina route. A fourth rail line is set to be constructed on this busy rail corridor, which is the most heavily trafficked section of the West Central Railway. This new line aims to enhance rail operations and has received approval for the project.
The proposed fourth rail line will play a crucial role in increasing rail traffic capacity, facilitating smoother train operations, and meeting future transportation needs. The total length of the new line is projected to be 237 kilometers, while the total track length is set at 264 kilometers.
An estimated budget of approximately ₹4,329 crores has been approved for this ambitious project. Currently, the survey work for the Itarsi-Bhopal-Bina fourth rail line project has been completed. The tendering and land acquisition processes are underway, with a budget allocation of ₹100 crores for this financial year.
The project will include the construction of nine tunnels, four major bridges, 39 large bridges, 151 small bridges, 43 road overbridges, and 39 road underbridges. This will modernize, secure, and enhance the rail network. The Itarsi-Bhopal-Bina rail section is among the busiest railway routes in the country.
The addition of the fourth rail line will streamline the movement of passenger and freight trains, significantly improving train punctuality and operational capacity. The Ministry of Railways has set a four-year timeline for the completion of this project. Once completed, it will provide better rail connectivity to various regions, including Madhya Pradesh.
