Andhra Pradesh CM Congratulates TTD for Achieving 89.4% Green Cover

Tirupati, May 18: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu congratulated the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) on achieving an impressive 89.4% forest cover in Tirumala on Monday.

The Chief Minister took to social media platform X to commend TTD for this achievement, which was made possible through sustainable conservation efforts aimed at protecting forest wealth and restoring native species in the Seshachalam hills.

He emphasized that nature is revered in our traditions, and protecting forests and wildlife is a service to God. Naidu expressed appreciation for these efforts, which contribute to preserving a green and healthy Tirumala for future generations.

Previously, TTD had announced its achievement of 89.4% green cover. The temple body stated that its forest department has excelled in conserving forest wealth through extensive measures for the restoration of native species.

Since 1980, TTD’s forest department has been safeguarding the rich forest resources of the Seshachalam hills while fulfilling the spiritual needs of millions of devotees, all while maintaining ecological balance.

TTD highlighted that by protecting forest areas spread across the sacred Seshachalam mountain ranges of the Eastern Ghats, the department plays a crucial role in biodiversity conservation.

The TTD forest department oversees a total of 2,719 hectares of forest area. According to the latest India State of Forest Report (ISFR), 89.40% of the forest area within TTD’s jurisdiction has been recorded, making it one of the leading institutions in the country in terms of green cover. Approximately 2,431 hectares are covered with vegetation, significantly contributing to carbon storage, climate regulation, and biodiversity conservation.

The TTD forest department operates under the supervision of a Deputy Conservator of Forests. There are four forest areas—two in Tirumala and two in Tirupati—each led by a forest range officer. On the ground, assistant range officers, forest section officers, and support staff coordinate forest conservation activities.
