Ram Nagar, May 18: A male tiger was discovered dead during a routine patrol in the Kalagarh range of Uttarakhand’s renowned Corbett Tiger Reserve on Monday. The tiger’s body was found near the Dhara Soak area, causing alarm among forest officials.
Upon discovering the carcass, the forest personnel immediately informed higher authorities. Following this, a departmental team arrived at the scene under the direction of Dr. Saket Badola, the director of Corbett Park, to initiate an investigation.
Corbett Park’s Deputy Director Rahul Mishra and Park Warden Binder Pal Singh reached the site with their teams. Senior wildlife veterinarian Dr. Dushyant Sharma also arrived with a medical team to inspect the tiger’s body. The examination was conducted in the presence of officials, and further actions were taken according to the guidelines of the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA).
Dr. Saket Badola reported that the tiger was found dead during regular patrolling. He noted that the deceased tiger is male and estimated to be between eight and ten years old.
Preliminary investigations suggest a natural death, as all body parts were intact and there were no clear signs of poaching or conflict.
Dr. Badola stated that a post-mortem was conducted under the supervision of senior wildlife veterinarians. Necessary samples were collected and sent to the Wildlife Institute of India (WII) for analysis. The actual cause of death will be confirmed after the report is received. He added that the tiger’s body was disposed of in accordance with NTCA regulations.
Following the incident, the forest department is maintaining continuous surveillance in the area. The Corbett Tiger Reserve is one of the country’s premier tiger reserves, making any tiger death a serious concern for the department. Currently, the department is engaged in a detailed investigation of the matter.
