APEC Trade Ministers Conference Set to Take Place in Suzhou

Beijing, May 18: The APEC Trade Ministers’ Conference will be held on May 22 and 23 in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, China. Consultations and discussions commenced today, May 18. Approximately 700 representatives from APEC’s 21 economies and international organizations are expected to participate in this conference.

Yuan Qian, Deputy Director of the Trade and Investment Research Office under the National Development and Reform Commission of China, stated that APEC is the highest-level, most comprehensive, and influential economic cooperation framework in the Asia-Pacific region. On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the presentation of the vision for the Asia-Pacific Free Trade Area, the APEC Trade Ministers will play an active role in maintaining a multilateral trading system, stabilizing Asia-Pacific cooperation, and leading global open development.

Key topics at the APEC Trade Ministers’ Conference include the digital economy, electronic bills of lading, and green supply chains.

Cho Mi, Deputy Director of the America and Oceania Studies Center under the Ministry of Commerce’s International Trade and Economic Cooperation Research Institute, emphasized the crucial impact of e-bills of lading in international trade. This innovation will significantly enhance the capacity of medium and small economies, as well as developing countries, to engage in international trade and improve trade efficiency.
