Kuala Lumpur, May 18: Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim stated on Monday that Malaysia will continue to strengthen its good relations with India for mutual benefits, regional stability, and greater prosperity for both nations.
The statement comes as India’s High Commissioner to Malaysia, B.N. Reddy, is set to complete his tenure in Kuala Lumpur. During a courtesy farewell meeting, Reddy met with Prime Minister Ibrahim, who emphasized that the meeting aimed to further enhance bilateral relations between the two countries.
Following the meeting, Ibrahim took to social media platform X, stating, “This meeting was also used to strengthen bilateral relations between Malaysia and India, which are currently at a broad strategic cooperation level. This reflects our shared commitment to enhance collaboration across various sectors, including trade, digital technology, artificial intelligence (AI), food security, education, and people-to-people connections.”
He highlighted the positive developments in bilateral trade, which reached $18.59 billion in 2025, making India Malaysia’s largest trading partner in South Asia.
Ibrahim noted, “The recent hosting of the first Malaysia-India Digital Council (MIDC) meeting and the MY-India AI Conclave demonstrates significant progress in collaboration in the digital and new technology sectors. Malaysia will continue to strengthen these good relations for mutual benefits, regional stability, and greater prosperity for both countries.”
Earlier this year, during his visit to Malaysia, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Ibrahim to review the implementation of the comprehensive strategic partnership between India and Malaysia across various sectors.
After the meeting with Ibrahim in February, Modi wrote on X, “India and Malaysia are maritime neighbors with a long-standing friendship. We reviewed our development cooperation in trade, infrastructure, energy, IT, biotechnology, and other sectors. We also agreed to strengthen cooperation in security, defense, AI, digital technology, and semiconductors.”
During Modi’s visit to Malaysia, Ibrahim expressed hope that the visit would further enhance the friendship between the two nations, grounded in a long history of mutual respect and shared aspirations for the future.
