MoU Signed Between Water Department and Andaman Administration: CR Patil

New Delhi, May 18: Central Water Power Minister CR Patil announced on Monday that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Administration.

In a post, the minister noted that under the guidance of PM Modi, the MoU aims to fulfill the ‘Har Ghar Jal’ commitment as part of the Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0. This agreement is a significant step towards ensuring safe, regular, and sustainable drinking water services in remote and island areas. The event was attended by Admiral DK Joshi, Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, State Minister V. Somanna, and senior officials from the ministry and UT administration.

In another post, the minister shared that an MoU has also been signed between the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti, and the West Bengal government, in line with PM Modi’s vision for a developed India. This partnership will accelerate the expansion of safe, reliable, and sustainable drinking water services in the state.

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari joined the event virtually, along with senior state officials. The extension of safe drinking water services to rural areas in West Bengal is expected to not only improve the quality of life for residents but also empower inclusive development and citizen participation in governance.

State Minister V. Somanna and senior officials from the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation were present at the occasion.

Referring to PM Modi’s recent visit to the Netherlands, the minister mentioned that the Prime Minister toured a famous dam similar to the large Kalsar Project in Gujarat. The Kalsar Project is a multi-purpose initiative aimed at creating a large freshwater reservoir dam by linking both banks of the Gulf of Khambhat in Gujarat, thereby providing electricity, irrigation, and clean drinking water.
