Bengaluru, May 18: Central Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy criticized the Congress party on Monday, stating that while the entire nation understands Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s economic concerns, the opposition has failed to do so.
Responding to questions from reporters in Bengaluru, Kumaraswamy emphasized that the opposition should responsibly acknowledge the Prime Minister’s concerns and raise public awareness, rather than engaging in what he termed “petty propaganda.”
He pointed out that the crisis in the Middle East has severely impacted countries worldwide, and India will naturally face additional economic pressure. Nevertheless, he noted that India has successfully navigated many challenges due to its economic strength.
Kumaraswamy mentioned that in light of future uncertainties, the Prime Minister has urged citizens to refrain from purchasing gold for a year. He asserted that this suggestion is made in the national interest to prevent economic difficulties in the future. He criticized the Congress party for finding fault with such a noble appeal.
He further stated that ordinary citizens have heeded the Prime Minister’s advice, while only the opposition has opposed it. “It is truly ironic,” he said. “If Congress were in power during such circumstances, what would they have done? Criticism for political reasons is not appropriate. Congress leaders should abandon such narrow-minded thinking.”
Calling for introspection from the Congress party, Kumaraswamy urged them to clarify how they plan to fund their five guarantee schemes.
He accused Congress of needing to reflect before criticizing the government. They should explain which taxes have been imposed and which prices have increased to fund the guarantee schemes initiated for political gain. Rising inflation is troubling the public.
Kumaraswamy labeled Congress’s questioning of the Prime Minister’s concern for the country as a “narrow mindset” and advised the opposition to demonstrate political maturity and work together responsibly.
He also attacked the Congress government regarding the proposed ‘Sadhana Samavesha’ conference in Tumakuru, questioning the purpose of the event. “It is difficult to understand what achievement they are celebrating. Are they commemorating three years of internal power struggles? They should answer that themselves.”
