Lucknow, May 18: In a significant move ahead of the upcoming panchayat elections, the Yogi government has approved the establishment of a dedicated Backward Classes Commission in Uttar Pradesh. Pankaj Chaudhary, the state BJP president and Union Minister of State for Finance, described this decision as a historic step towards social justice. He emphasized that the double-engine government has demonstrated that social justice is not merely an electoral slogan but a commitment to be implemented through constitutional and institutional frameworks.
The commission aims to provide a robust legal and constitutional basis for OBC reservation in panchayati raj institutions. It will conduct a comprehensive study of the social and political participation of backward classes in rural bodies. Through this commission, the determination of reservations will be based on accurate data, a transparent process, and constitutional standards, thereby strengthening the democratic participation and representation of backward classes.
Pankaj Chaudhary stated that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Uttar Pradesh government is consistently making decisions that enhance the political participation of villages, the poor, and marginalized communities.
The BJP believes that social justice cannot be achieved through slogans alone but requires a strong institutional framework, transparent policies, and genuine representation. Chaudhary noted that the central government has also taken several crucial steps for the social and economic empowerment of backward classes.
From granting constitutional status to the National Backward Classes Commission to implementing schemes like Ayushman Bharat, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Ujjwala Yojana, Har Ghar Jal, and Swamitva Yojana, the government has directly benefited millions.
He highlighted that Prime Minister Modi has worked to connect social justice with development and respect, moving it away from vote bank politics. Chaudhary clarified that the commission will include experts with a deep understanding of issues related to backward classes. A retired High Court judge will chair the commission, ensuring transparency and credibility in the process, while also minimizing future disputes and confusion regarding reservations in panchayat elections.
During this announcement, the BJP state president also launched a sharp attack on the Samajwadi Party (SP). He accused the SP of engaging in vote bank politics under the guise of supporting backward and Dalit communities. The party, which speaks of PDA during elections, has never developed a solid and transparent system for social justice while in power.
Chaudhary asserted that the SP’s politics has been limited to nepotism and appeasement, while the BJP focuses on genuine representation, equal opportunities, and participatory politics. He concluded by stating that the BJP government is working on the mantra of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, and Sabka Prayas,” and the establishment of the dedicated Backward Classes Commission is a strong example of that commitment.
