Haridwar, April 8: The sacred land of Uttarakhand has long been a home for sages and deities. Among its revered sites is the Mansa Devi Temple, located on the Shivalik hills of Haridwar. This temple symbolizes the faith of countless devotees and is renowned for its stunning architecture and natural beauty.
Mata Mansa Devi is known as the mental daughter of Lord Shiva and the sister of Vasuki Nag. Her main temple, situated on Bilva Mountain, is the most famous among her shrines. She is primarily worshipped for protection against snake bites and for blessings related to progeny.
The temple’s significance and grandeur attract devotees from far and wide. On Wednesday, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami highlighted the temple’s magnificence. He shared a special video of the temple on his social media platform X, stating, “The sacred Mansa Devi Temple is located at the peak of the Shivalik mountain range in Haridwar district. Special prayers and rituals are conducted here during the auspicious occasion of Navratri, filled with devotion and faith. Experience spiritual peace and energy by visiting Mata Mansa Devi during your trip to Haridwar.”
The idol of the goddess on Bilva Mountain is depicted seated on a lotus or a serpent. It is believed that Mata Mansa Devi fulfills the wishes of her devotees. Many believe that tying a thread to the tree in the temple courtyard will lead to the fulfillment of their desires.
Numerous devotees tie threads to the tree as a vow, returning to untie them once their wishes are granted. Worship of Mata Mansa is particularly significant during Nag Panchami, as she is also referred to as ‘Vishahari’ (the one who conquers poison), protecting people from snake venom.
