New Delhi, February 17: The 13th joint military exercise “Khanzhar 2026” between India and Kyrgyzstan concluded with a closing ceremony in Assam’s Misamari on February 17, 2026. This exercise took place from February 4 to 17, 2026, with elite units from both nations participating in a spirit of friendship and professionalism. The primary objective was to enhance mutual understanding, operational coordination, and shared tactical capabilities.

Twenty soldiers from the Indian Army’s Parachute Regiment (Special Forces) and an equal number from Kyrgyzstan’s Ilbris Special Forces Brigade participated in the exercise. The training focused on counter-terrorism operations, special operation drills, urban warfare, and other tactical training under a UN mandate. Soldiers exchanged best practices, which increased interoperability and trust between the forces. This annual bilateral program, initiated in 2011, alternates between the two countries, with the previous edition held in Kyrgyzstan in March 2025.

During the closing ceremony, both sides expressed satisfaction with the exercise’s success. It not only served as a platform to refine military skills but also reaffirmed the shared commitment of both armies to regional stability, security, and long-term military cooperation. The exercise further deepened the India-Kyrgyzstan defense partnership, particularly in addressing common challenges like terrorism and extremism.

In a related development, Air Marshal Jitendra Mishra, the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Air Command, visited a frontline air force station. Upon arrival, he received a guard of honor and conducted a detailed review of the station’s operational readiness. He flew an operational sortie in an SU-30MKI fighter aircraft and interacted with air warriors and support staff. Air Marshal Mishra praised the high morale, professionalism, and readiness of the air warriors.

This visit was crucial for assessing the operational capabilities and preparedness of the Indian Air Force. Air Marshal Mishra emphasized that such preparations are vital for national security and that the teams of the Western Air Command are committed to facing challenges robustly.
