New Delhi, May 24: Raghav Chadha, a Member of Parliament from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has been appointed as the new chair of the Rajya Sabha’s Petition Committee. This appointment was made as part of a reorganization process led by committee chair CP Radhakrishnan, an official announced on Sunday.
The committee was reorganized on May 20. Other members include JB Mather Hisham, Harsh Mahajan, Ghulam Ali, Mayank Kumar Nayak, Mastan Rao Yadav Bidha, Subhashish Khuntia, Rangavara Narzari, Santosh Kumar P., and Shambhu Sharan Patel.
An official notification confirmed Raghav Chadha’s new role as chair of the committee. This significant responsibility comes shortly after Chadha transitioned from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to the BJP, alongside six other MPs who also joined the BJP.
In April, seven Rajya Sabha MPs, including Chadha, left the AAP for the BJP, marking a substantial setback for the AAP. Following this, Chadha met with President Droupadi Murmu regarding the alleged misuse of state resources by the AAP-led government in Punjab.
Chadha accused the Punjab government of using police and administrative resources to target MPs who switched to the BJP, claiming it was an act of political vengeance. Previously, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had criticized Chadha and the other MPs who joined the BJP.
Mann stated that those normalizing this defection are grossly undermining the public’s decision. He deemed this behavior unacceptable, suggesting that such individuals are preparing to change their loyalties.
