
Ahmedabad, May 24: The 75th edition of the ‘Sunday on Cycle’ event, part of the Fit India Movement, took place in Ahmedabad. The event featured prominent attendees, including Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, Gujarat’s Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi, actor Ayushmann Khurrana, and Olympic medalist Gagan Narang.
Mansukh Mandaviya urged the public to embrace cycling more frequently. Speaking to reporters, he stated, “Today marks Commonwealth Day and the 75th edition of Sunday on Cycle. With both themes in mind, events are being held across the country. India is set to host the Commonwealth Games in 2030, with Ahmedabad as the host city. Thousands of youths are participating in Sunday on Cycle, encouraging everyone to engage in sports and maintain fitness. Additionally, the youth of Ahmedabad are joining Prime Minister Modi’s oil conservation campaign.”
The Sports Minister highlighted three significant benefits of cycling. He noted that cycling helps maintain fitness and serves as an excellent workout. Moreover, it reduces pollution and contributes to oil conservation. He encouraged people to incorporate cycling into their daily lives.
Mandaviya emphasized that for the nation to progress and realize PM Modi’s vision of a developed India, it is essential for citizens to stay fit. “If we remain fit, society will be healthy, and a healthy society can build a prosperous nation,” he added.
Gagan Narang praised Sunday on Cycle as a remarkable initiative. He expressed delight at the large number of youths participating in the event. In Delhi, Education Minister Ashish Sood also attended the Sunday on Cycle event, suggesting that if citizens cycled for just 30 minutes before visiting a doctor, they could maintain their fitness. He remarked that cycling has become a symbol of patriotism and a unique effort to save energy and petrol.
