Manpuri, May 24: The intense heat in Uttar Pradesh is now visibly impacting the electricity supply system. With soaring temperatures and record electricity demand, the system is under significant strain. In this context, state minister Jayveer Singh provided insights into the government’s preparations.
During a conversation on Saturday, Singh noted that a severe heatwave is affecting the entire northern region of India, with temperatures reaching between 45 and 47 degrees Celsius in several cities. This spike in temperature has led to a sudden surge in electricity demand. He stated that under the Chief Minister‘s directives, the government is working diligently to ensure uninterrupted power supply. Any technical issues or faults are being addressed promptly.
The minister acknowledged that some areas are facing challenges. He pointed out that in several instances, public inconvenience is due to negligence from lower-level officials or deficiencies in the system. However, the government is taking these issues seriously and is taking action in such cases.
He mentioned that whenever serious negligence is identified, steps are being taken against the responsible officials, and such actions will continue. The government’s aim is to prevent any power crisis at all costs.
Meanwhile, in Gonda, rising temperatures have caused transformers to overheat. To manage the situation, electricity department employees are attempting to cool the transformers using water sprays and large fans.
According to officials, electricity demand has surged to approximately 800 megawatts, significantly higher than normal levels. This increased demand is putting immense pressure on the electricity infrastructure, raising the risk of transformer failures.
An official informed that the temperature of transformers is rising well above normal levels, making it essential to cool them periodically to ensure safety. If any transformer fails, it could disrupt power supply across the entire area. Therefore, electricity department teams are continuously monitoring the situation in the field. They have also urged the public to use electrical appliances judiciously and avoid running heavy-load devices simultaneously.
