Gurinderveer Singh Sets New National Record in 100m Freestyle at Federation Cup

New Delhi, May 24: Gurinderveer Singh has made headlines by winning the gold medal in the 100-meter freestyle race at the Federation Cup 2026 held in Ranchi. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann congratulated him for his remarkable achievement. Gurinderveer completed the race in just 10.09 seconds, setting a new national record.

In a post on his social media account ‘X’, Chief Minister Mann praised Gurinderveer, stating, “Congratulations to our promising athlete Gurinderveer Singh for winning the gold medal in the 100-meter freestyle race at the Federation Cup in Ranchi. Our brave son has set a new national record by finishing the race in just 10.09 seconds. He is the first Indian athlete to complete the 100 meters in under 10.10 seconds. By breaking the national record for the second time in two days, this son of Punjab has brought pride to our state on both national and international levels. The entire Punjab is proud of Gurinderveer’s historic achievement. Congratulations and best wishes for the future.”

Gurinderveer has now become the fastest runner in India for the 100-meter race. His outstanding performance has also qualified him for the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games. The tournament in Ranchi saw a fierce competition between Gurinderveer and Animesh Kujur. On Friday, Gurinderveer broke Animesh’s record by completing the 100 meters in 10.17 seconds during the first heat. Just ten minutes later, Animesh reclaimed the record by finishing in 10.15 seconds.

However, in the finals on Saturday, Gurinderveer delivered an extraordinary performance, finishing the race in 10.09 seconds and making history. Animesh was unable to challenge him in the final, finishing second with a time of 10.20 seconds, while Pranav Pramod secured third place with a time of 10.29 seconds.
