Delhi Launches Five-Day Campaign to Aid the Homeless and Vulnerable

New Delhi, May 11: The Chief Minister of Delhi, Rekha Gupta, inaugurated a special five-day ‘Service and Rescue Campaign’ on Monday aimed at assisting the homeless, sick, and vulnerable individuals. Special vehicles will transport these individuals to safe shelters operated by government and volunteer organizations.

Addressing the gathering after flagging off the rescue vehicles from the ‘Chief Minister Service House’, the Chief Minister stated that specially deployed ambulances and rescue vehicles will reach out to the homeless, ill, and abandoned individuals residing on streets, sidewalks, and public places across Delhi, ensuring they are taken to safe shelters.

According to a statement, this campaign will run from May 11 to 15 across all 13 districts, involving 19 special rescue ambulances, 10 support vehicles, approximately 100 staff members, and 50 dedicated volunteers working around the clock.

The government’s objective through this initiative is to provide immediate assistance to over 300 needy individuals living in challenging conditions throughout the city.

Those rescued will be accommodated at the ‘Apna Ghar’ Ashram, where they will receive medical treatment, nutritious food, and dignified care. Arrangements have been made for 500 needy individuals, including 100 beds for women and 400 for men.

The Chief Minister mentioned that if the families of the rescued individuals are identified and wish to take them back, efforts will be made to reunite them with their loved ones after recovery. For those without family support, the Ashram will continue to provide care with respect, compassion, and humanity.

The Chief Minister flagged off a fleet of specially equipped ambulances and rescue vehicles as part of this intensive five-day campaign, which will take place across all 13 districts of Delhi from May 11 to 15.

This initiative is jointly managed by the Delhi government’s Department of Social Welfare, Apna Ghar Ashram, and Seva Bharati.

The launch event was attended by Shakur Basti MLA Karnail Singh, founder of ‘Apna Ghar’ Ashram Dr. B.M. Bhardwaj, Seva Bharati Delhi State President Ramesh Agarwal, senior government officials, and representatives from social organizations.

To ensure smooth and effective implementation of the campaign, a dedicated ‘one-window system’ has been developed in coordination with the Department of Social Welfare. In the first phase of the campaign, approximately 20 individuals have already been successfully rescued.
