Hops FC Claims IW League 2 Title, Jubaa Secures Promotion

New Delhi, May 17: Hops FC has clinched the title of the Indian Women’s League 2 (IW League 2). The team achieved an impressive record with five wins in the final round, totaling nine victories throughout the tournament. Jubaa Sangha FC finished in second place, earning promotion to the Indian Women’s League (IW League) for the 2026-27 season. This marks Jubaa Sangha’s first promotion in the IW League.

The final round, featuring six teams, was held at the Padukone-Dravid Center for Sports Excellence in Bengaluru, where Hops topped the standings with 15 points. The Delhi-based team scored eight goals and maintained a solid defense, not conceding any goals during the final round. They reached this stage by finishing first in their group with four consecutive wins. This victory represents Hops’ first IW League 2 title and signifies their return to India’s top-tier women’s football league after last season’s relegation.

Jubaa Sangha FC secured second place with 12 points, winning four out of five matches. They were also the highest-scoring team in the final round, netting a total of 15 goals.

Hops began their campaign with a 3-0 victory over Krida Prabodhini Pune. They followed this with a 2-0 win against Mumbai Knights FC and narrowly defeated Suruchi Sangha 1-0. Hops achieved another close victory against Kemp FC, winning 1-0, and secured the title by defeating Jubaa Sangha 1-0 in the final match.

Jubaa Sangha kicked off their final round with a 3-1 win over Kemp and later triumphed 5-2 against Krida Prabodhini Pune. Additional victories against Mumbai Knights and Suruchi Sangha kept them in contention, but their loss to Hops left them in second place.

Kemp finished third with nine points, winning three out of five matches. Krida Prabodhini Pune placed fourth with six points, while Mumbai Knights ended fifth with three points. Suruchi Sangha did not earn any points and exited the final round.

Simran Gurung from Krida Prabodhini emerged as the tournament’s top scorer with nine goals. Her teammate Sumaiya Sheikh followed with seven goals, sharing second place with Roshni Tigga from Suruchi Sangha and Vipanshi from Jubaa Sangha.

Jubaa Sangha’s Nidhi also scored six goals throughout the tournament, while Bhagyashree Dalvi from Mumbai Knights and Maidangshri Narzari from Karbi Anglong Sports Association Girls Football Club each netted five goals. Khushboo Saroj from Kemp and Kiran from Jubaa Sangha both scored four goals.

The IW League 2, which commenced in the 2023-24 season, is the second tier of women’s club football in India. The top two teams from this competition are promoted to the IW League, the premier division for women’s football in the country.

In the 2023-24 season, Shreebhumi FC was the inaugural champion, while Garhwal United FC claimed the title last season. Hops has now become the second team from Delhi to win the IW League 2.
