Mourinho Denies Contact from Real Madrid Amid Coaching Speculations

Madrid, May 17: Portuguese manager José Mourinho is reportedly close to returning as the coach of Real Madrid for the second time in his career. He confirmed that the club has reached out to his representative, Jorge Mendes.

Speaking to the press in Portugal after leading Benfica to a 3-1 victory over Estoril Praia, Mourinho was asked about the possibility of returning to Real Madrid, where he previously coached from 2010 to 2013.

According to reports, when questioned about his potential return, Mourinho stated, “I don’t know. I only have one proposal on record, which is from Benfica. I haven’t seen it yet, but Mendes told me it’s very good.”

The 63-year-old manager mentioned that he has not spoken directly with Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez or anyone else from the club. He noted that communication is ongoing between the club and Mendes, expressing confidence that he will be contacted soon.

Mourinho did not rule out the possibility of staying at Benfica, indicating he intends to explore his options in the coming week.

Current Real Madrid coach Álvaro Arbeloa has expressed support for Mourinho’s potential return, stating he would be pleased to see his former Portuguese boss take charge again. Arbeloa remarked, “I believe I have always had a clear opinion about Mourinho throughout my life. As a player and, most importantly, as a Real Madrid supporter, I feel and believe he is number one.”
