Kanpur, May 17: The political climate in Kanpur has intensified over the statue of Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi. Samajwadi Party MLA Amitabh Bajpai has accused the administration of negligence. He has raised questions regarding the statue’s installation by writing a letter with his own blood. According to him, the statue, which was removed during metro construction, has yet to be reinstalled, despite multiple letters sent to the authorities on the matter.
In an interview, Bajpai stated that the statue was taken down before the metro work commenced. Once the construction was completed, efforts were made to locate the statue. A campaign was launched to find it, but those in possession of the statue reportedly resorted to intimidation. The administration has been unable to retrieve the statue despite writing to the District Magistrate. Although the location for the statue’s installation was changed and accepted, it has still not been set up.
The MLA expressed frustration, stating that thieves are roaming the city with the statue, yet the administration has failed to apprehend them or recover the statue. This has led him to resort to writing a letter in blood.
Bajpai mentioned that he has previously written multiple letters with a pen, but the authorities seem unresponsive. He hopes that this drastic measure will finally get their attention.
Regarding the delay in departmental allocations following the cabinet expansion in Uttar Pradesh, Bajpai remarked that the two engines of the double-engine government are colliding. He noted that the ministers have been appointed at the center’s behest, and most significant departments remain under the Chief Minister’s control. He criticized the CM for not distributing responsibilities and suggested that the newly appointed ministers are merely placeholders with limited authority.
