Ranchi, May 17: In a series of dramatic events reminiscent of classic Bollywood films, young lovers in Jharkhand are taking their romantic struggles to new heights—literally. Mobile towers, typically viewed as mere communication tools, have become the latest stages for love dramas in the state.
Over the past two weeks, there have been three notable incidents of individuals climbing mobile towers due to love-related issues. The most recent case occurred in the Siklain area of Gomoh, Dhanbad district, where a young woman climbed a mobile tower on Sunday to demand the release of her boyfriend from police custody and to push for their marriage.
The young woman, identified as Devanti Kumari from Sahariya, is in love with a married man who had been arrested by the Nimiyaghat police in connection with a case. Distressed by her boyfriend’s arrest, she ascended the tower, causing a stir in the area as a crowd gathered to witness the unfolding drama.
For approximately an hour and a half, she persistently called for her boyfriend’s release and insisted on their marriage. Upon receiving the alert, the police from the Hariharpur station arrived at the scene. After considerable efforts from the police and local residents, she was safely brought down. Subsequently, she was taken to the police station, where her family was informed. An investigation into the matter is currently underway.
Just a day prior, a similar incident took place in Nimiyaghat, Giridih district, where a young man named Sunil Kumar Mahato climbed a mobile tower to demand marriage with his girlfriend. He remained atop the tower for nearly seven hours before being safely rescued by police and locals. Reports indicate that his romantic interest was his brother’s sister-in-law.
Earlier in May, another incident occurred in the Ranka police area of Garhwa district. A young man named Asadullah Ansari climbed a 145-foot tall mobile tower, upset over his girlfriend’s impending marriage to someone else. He threatened to jump if he was not allowed to marry her. After nine hours of negotiation, police and family members successfully brought him down.
These incidents highlight the lengths to which individuals will go for love, turning mobile towers into unexpected symbols of romantic desperation.
