
Chamba, May 17: The municipal elections in Himachal Pradesh saw a remarkable voter turnout of 68.22% across 51 local bodies, including the four municipal corporations of Solan, Mandi, Palampur, and Dharamshala. Voting took place peacefully in Chamba district, with the district administration reporting significant participation.
According to the released data, out of 20,584 registered voters in the three local bodies of Chamba, Dalhousie, and Chuwadi, 14,042 exercised their right to vote. This included 7,121 male voters and 6,921 female voters.
In the Chamba municipal council, 9,888 out of 14,855 voters cast their ballots, resulting in a voter turnout of 66.56%. The female voter turnout was recorded at 64.58%.
Dalhousie witnessed the highest voter turnout, with 2,436 out of 3,150 voters participating, marking a turnout of 77.33%. Female participation here was also impressive at 77.04%.
In Chuwadi, 1,718 out of 2,579 voters cast their votes, achieving a turnout of 66.61%, with female participation at 66.44%.
The additional deputy commissioner of Chamba confirmed that the voting process was conducted smoothly. Preparations for the vote counting are now underway.
Voting for the four municipal corporations took place on Sunday, with long queues observed at polling booths in the morning. The elections involved a total of 1,147 candidates contesting for 439 positions across the four corporations.
In addition to the four municipal corporations, elections are also being held for 25 municipal councils and 22 nagar panchayats within the state. The counting of votes for the councils and panchayats will commence immediately after the polls close. However, results for the four municipal corporations will be announced on May 31.
