New Delhi, June 1: The Delhi government has announced a significant increase in the relief amount for farmers affected by crop damage. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that farmers impacted by heavy rainfall and flooding during August-September 2025 will receive ₹75,000 per hectare as compensation.
This decision was made during a cabinet meeting. CM Rekha Gupta highlighted that approximately 10,000 farmers in the capital will benefit directly from this initiative, as their crops were severely affected by the persistent heavy rains and flooding caused by overflowing natural drains last year. In total, around 10,977.44 acres (approximately 4,442.41 hectares) of agricultural land in Delhi were impacted.
According to the Chief Minister, the previous government had set the compensation rate at ₹20,000 per acre in 2015 for crop damage due to rainfall, which translates to about ₹49,421 per hectare. The current government has raised this amount to ₹75,000 per hectare, taking into account the increase in agricultural costs over the past decade.
Farmers will receive significantly more assistance compared to previous years. This aid is specifically for those whose crops were damaged due to heavy rainfall and resultant flooding. The decision addresses the circumstances arising from the extreme rainfall and disruption of natural drainage systems during August-September 2025.
CM Rekha Gupta clarified that this assistance will be provided to recorded landowners. Land owned by companies, land held by village councils, and farmhouses with permanent boundaries will not be eligible for this aid. A detailed assessment conducted by the revenue department revealed extensive crop damage due to the heavy rainfall and flooding in affected areas, with a total loss assessment reaching 100 percent.
In light of this, the cabinet has decided to grant full compensation of ₹75,000 per hectare to the affected farmers. Previously, compensation was provided based on the extent of damage, with 70 percent damage receiving proportional aid and over 70 percent damage qualifying for full assistance.
CM Rekha Gupta emphasized that the Delhi government prioritizes the hard work, livelihood, and agricultural security of farmers. When natural disasters or extreme weather conditions impact farmers’ crops, it is the government’s duty to stand firmly with them and provide timely financial support.
She noted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the central government is committed to increasing farmers’ incomes, making agriculture more profitable, and providing a safety net during crises. Following this vision and commitment, the Delhi government has made this crucial decision to provide relief to farmers affected by crop damage. This assistance will not only provide economic support but also enable farmers to prepare for the next crop and ensure the continuity of agricultural activities.
