Suman Kalyanpur Leaves a Legacy of Timeless Melodies, Says Suresh Wadkar

Mumbai, June 1: The Indian music industry mourns the loss of star Suman Kalyanpur, who passed away at the age of 89. Renowned singer Suresh Wadkar paid tribute to her, stating that she was a source of inspiration and musical education for many generations.

Wadkar described Kalyanpur’s passing as a significant loss to the music world. “Her departure is a deeply saddening event. Throughout her long career, she sang thousands of songs that remain alive in people’s hearts and will continue to resonate in the future. We grew up listening to her songs, which offered us valuable lessons in music. Her voice had a unique sweetness and simplicity that touched people’s hearts directly,” he remarked.

He further noted, “Suman Kalyanpur sang in multiple languages, including Hindi, Marathi, and Gujarati, establishing her unique identity in each. Her greatest strength was her ability to transcend any single language or region. Her songs connected people from various parts of the country. She was incredibly humble and always greeted everyone with love and respect.”

Wadkar emphasized, “She has left behind a vast treasure of songs. The melodies she created will help future generations learn the nuances of singing and inspire them. I pray for Suman Ji’s soul to find peace.”

Kalyanpur passed away on Sunday evening in Mumbai. The news of her death sent waves of grief through the music and film industry.

On Monday, her last rites were conducted with full state honors at the Pawan Hans crematorium in Santa Cruz, Mumbai. A large number of fans, artists, and well-wishers attended her final journey, bidding her farewell with tearful eyes.

Kalyanpur recorded over three thousand songs in Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, Assamese, Kannada, and many other languages. Evergreen hits like “Aajkal Tere Mere Pyar Ke Charchay,” “Na Na Karte Pyar Tumhi Se,” and “Tumne Pukara Aur Hum Chale Aaye” remain popular today. Her voice was often compared to that of Lata Mangeshkar, yet Kalyanpur always maintained her distinct identity.
