
Noida, June 1: In a significant crackdown on illegal gambling and betting, police in Noida have arrested 20 individuals in the Sector 49 area. Authorities seized cash amounting to ₹162,250, 160 playing cards, seven two-wheelers, one four-wheeler, and 22 mobile phones from the suspects.
The operation took place on Monday based on local intelligence and confidential information. Police received a tip-off that a group was gambling in a room at the Sunrise Hotel located in Sector 51. Acting on this information, law enforcement conducted a raid and apprehended the 20 individuals on-site.
The arrested suspects hail from various regions, including Noida, Greater Noida, Bulandshahr, Mathura, Jhansi, Gorakhpur, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, and Haryana. During interrogation, they revealed that they had arrived at the hotel in their vehicles and rented a room to engage in gambling by placing cash bets. A substantial amount of cash and gambling paraphernalia was recovered during the raid, including ₹162,250 in cash, 160 playing cards, 22 mobile phones, seven motorcycles, and one car.
Police suspect that a betting network was also being operated through mobile phones, and investigations are ongoing. It has come to light that some of the arrested individuals have prior criminal records. Sachin Gupta has a history of assault and damage-related charges, while Manoj Kumar has been involved in a road accident case.
Additionally, Mohammad Shaheem and Kapil Sharma have previously faced action under the Public Gambling Act. The Sector 49 police have filed cases against all suspects under Sections 3/4 of the Public Gambling Act.
Police officials have stated that the campaign against illegal gambling and betting in the district will continue, with strict action against those involved in such activities. Authorities are also investigating whether the hotel management was aware of these activities and if the location has been previously used for gambling.
