New Delhi, June 1: The Delhi government has successfully fulfilled another promise to women, as stated by Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh on Monday. In just 90 days, over 1 million Pink Sahili Cards have been issued. This initiative not only allows free bus travel but also marks a significant step towards safe, respectful, and digital public transportation for women.
Minister Singh emphasized that inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for Digital India and women’s empowerment, the Delhi government is continuously working to provide modern, safe, and convenient transportation services for women. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the achievement of the Pink Sahili Card initiative represents a crucial milestone in women’s empowerment and digital connectivity.
Speaking to reporters, Minister Singh clarified that this is not merely a scheme. “These 1 million cards have already been created. This is not just a plan; it is a dream. Our transport department and DTC have made this dream a reality, benefiting the people of Delhi. I am pleased to announce that we have issued over 1 million cards, and my mothers and sisters are reaping the benefits,” he said.
The Pink Sahili NCMC card was launched on March 2, aimed at providing women traveling in Delhi with a modern, digital, and hassle-free free travel option on DTC buses. Based on the framework of the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC), this initiative strengthens the Delhi government’s commitment to creating an accessible, technology-driven, and passenger-friendly public transport system.
Minister Singh reiterated that in line with Prime Minister Modi’s citizen-centric governance approach, the government is fully committed to providing better and more transparent transportation services to the people of Delhi.
He also mentioned that there are currently about 73 distribution centers across Delhi issuing these cards, with approximately 11,000 cards being issued daily. If demand increases, the government is prepared to enhance its reach and capacity.
“Our priority is clear: every eligible woman who wishes to benefit from this facility should receive this card. If demand exceeds our estimates, we are fully prepared to expand our capacity. The DTC has the necessary staff, systems, and operational readiness to reach more people,” he added.
Minister Singh concluded by stating that the Delhi government is committed to improving transportation with a citizen-centric approach, making travel and access to public services easier for the people of Delhi.
