
New Delhi, June 1: During a five-day visit to India, Myanmar’s President U Min Aung Hlaing met with Indian President Droupadi Murmu. President Murmu welcomed him at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday. The meeting emphasized the need to strengthen the historical, cultural, and strategic ties between the two nations.
The information was shared via the President’s official X handle. During their discussion, President Murmu highlighted that the shared Buddhist heritage and centuries-old people-to-people connections add warmth to the friendship between India and Myanmar. She stated, “Myanmar plays a crucial role between India and Southeast Asia and is considered India’s gateway to Southeast Asia.”
President Murmu also referenced the long-standing historical and cultural relationships between the two countries.
Earlier, President Hlaing met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House. During this meeting, PM Modi reiterated India’s commitment to enhancing cooperation and partnerships with its neighboring countries. He emphasized Myanmar’s special role in India’s ‘Neighborhood First’ and ‘Act East’ policies. Progress continues in areas such as trade, connectivity, capacity building, security cooperation, and development projects between the two nations.
PM Modi expressed India’s readiness to assist in advancing the peace and dialogue process in Myanmar. He also mentioned sharing experiences related to federal governance and economic development.
President U Min Aung Hlaing’s visit to India is seen as significant for revitalizing the relationship between the two countries. It is believed that this trip will further strengthen bilateral cooperation and promote regional peace, stability, and economic development.
