Bareilly, April 1: The Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Pushkar Singh Dhami, has made the controversial decision to abolish the Madarsa Board. This move has been met with strong opposition from Maulana Mufti Shahabuddin Razvi Bareilly, the National President of the All India Muslim Jamaat.
In a conversation in Lucknow, Maulana Razvi expressed his deep disappointment over the Chief Minister’s decision to close the Madarsa Board and shut down 250 madrasas. He criticized the government’s actions, stating that the status of these madrasas is being downgraded to that of regular schools. He remarked that the government claims these madrasas promote jihad and provide education against societal values. “This is unfortunate,” he said, highlighting that it reveals the true face of those in power. He pointed out that there have been previous instances where bulldozers were used against madrasas.
Razvi urged the government to study the history of madrasas, which have contributed to the country’s independence. He emphasized that these institutions do not receive any financial support from the government and operate on community donations, providing education in Urdu and Persian. “What objection does the government have to this?” he questioned.
On the other hand, CM Dhami defended his decision, stating that it aims to curb the divisive mentality prevalent in Uttarakhand. He announced that a standardized curriculum will be implemented in these institutions starting July 1, 2026. “We do not want jihadist thinking to flourish in the state. Madrasas should become ‘temples of knowledge,’ not centers of extremism,” he asserted.
The BJP in Uttarakhand has stated that under CM Dhami’s leadership, the government is laying the foundation for transformative reforms in the state’s education system. The decision to abolish the Madarsa Board by July 1, 2026, is seen as a testament to the administration’s courage and its unwavering commitment to providing equal opportunities for every child. The Chief Minister’s vision is clear: any form of discrimination in the name of education will not be tolerated. With the dissolution of the Madarsa Board, thousands of students will now have access to modern and inclusive education, marking a decisive step towards building a new Uttarakhand characterized by scientific and progressive thinking.
