New Delhi, May 16: The hearing regarding the revision petition filed against Congress Rajya Sabha member Sonia Gandhi at Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court has been postponed. The petition alleges that she had her name included in the voter list without obtaining Indian citizenship. The next hearing is scheduled for July 4.
During the previous hearing, the court instructed both parties to submit their written arguments within a week. Meanwhile, the complainant’s lawyer, Vikas Tripathi, requested permission to place certain documents received from the Election Commission on court record, which the court accepted.
The complainant stated that their current demand is not to initiate a trial but to conduct a police investigation. They emphasized that there are several questions in this case that require a fair inquiry.
The petition claims that Sonia Gandhi acquired Indian citizenship on April 30, 1983, yet her name was already present in the 1980 voter list of New Delhi. The petitioner raised concerns about the basis for her inclusion in the voter list prior to her citizenship acquisition in 1983. Additionally, the petition questions whether any fraudulent documents were used to register her name at that time.
Furthermore, the petition asserts that Sonia Gandhi’s name was removed from the voter list in 1982. The complainant has questioned the reasons behind this removal and the documents or processes that were followed.
All eyes are now on the court as it prepares for the next hearing on July 4.
