New Delhi, May 16: Businessman Robert Vadra, husband of Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, expressed his fearlessness after being granted bail in a money laundering case linked to the Shikohpur land deal. He stated that he has nothing to hide and is prepared to face the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Vadra emphasized that resilience is key in such situations.
On Saturday, Vadra appeared at the Rouse Avenue Court, where he was granted bail on a bond of ₹50,000. His lawyer argued that he had never been arrested in this case before, warranting his release. The court accepted this argument, and the next hearing is scheduled for July 10.
After receiving bail, Vadra told the media, “I have complete faith in the judicial system of this country. I know that the ED operates under government directives, which is not appropriate. Nonetheless, I trust the judicial process. I have nothing to hide, and I will always be here to answer any questions. I will comply with all formalities.”
He added that if his family continues to receive public support and they are performing well in elections, he must confront these challenges. “I have the courage to face this. I am fearless and have nothing to conceal,” he asserted.
The ED has alleged that Vadra’s company, Skylight Hospitality Private Limited, purchased approximately 3.5 acres of land in Shikohpur, Haryana, for ₹7.5 crore from Omkareshwar Properties Private Limited in February 2008, despite having limited capital. The agency claims that no actual payment was made and that the sale deed contained false statements, including references to a check that was allegedly never issued or cashed.
Furthermore, the ED claims that the sale deed undervalued the land, leading to stamp duty evasion, which constitutes a crime under IPC Section 423. In its prosecution complaint, the ED identified ₹58 crore as proceeds of crime and temporarily attached 43 properties valued at ₹38.69 crore.
