NASAs Rise Visits Canadian Space Agency Headquarters on VIP Tour

New Delhi, May 16: NASA’s Artemis II mission zero-gravity indicator and official mascot, ‘Rise,’ has arrived at the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) headquarters. The CSA shared a special video on social media detailing Rise’s schedule.

In a post on its official Instagram, the agency described Rise as an official team member, stating, “There’s no VIP tour like this one!” After completing the Artemis II mission, Rise embarked on a journey to Canada with the crew members. The reception at the CSA headquarters was filled with enthusiasm.

Rise began its tour at the main entrance, where it admired the model of the Canadarm2 robotic arm. Following that, it explored the robotics mission control room and the astronaut training center. At the training gym, Rise even engaged in a light workout. By the end of the day, this small mascot arrived at the library, where it found new inspiration.

It’s important to note that Rise is not just a toy; it serves as a zero-gravity indicator. Astronauts carry it in the capsule to determine when the spacecraft has exited Earth’s gravitational pull and entered space. When Rise starts to float, it signals the onset of zero gravity. Inside Rise is an SD card containing the names of 5,647,889 people collected through the ‘Send Your Name with Artemis’ campaign.

The design of Rise was created by Lucas, an 8-year-old student from California. His design was selected from over 2,600 entries from more than 50 countries in NASA’s ‘Moon Mascot Design Challenge.’ This design is dedicated to the ‘Earthrise’ of the Apollo 8 mission. Rise was specially crafted at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, making it lightweight and soft enough to float easily in space.

The four astronauts of the Artemis II mission—Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen—took Rise along on their journey to the Moon.
