Bollywood Film Ishqa to be Shot in Cyprus, Promises a Heartfelt Romantic Story

Mumbai, May 20: The Bollywood film ‘Ishqa’ is currently generating significant buzz in the industry. This excitement stems not only from its storyline and star cast but also from its historical significance. ‘Ishqa’ will be the first Bollywood film to be shot in Cyprus. The announcement was made during a grand event at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Colaba, Mumbai.

Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides graced the occasion, alongside notable figures from the film industry, including Javed Jaffrey, Ravi Kishan, Shreya Dhanwanthary, Elnaaz Norouzi, Gaurav Chopra, Aditi S. Pohankar, and Preeti Panigrahi.

‘Ishqa’ is set to be a romantic comedy-drama, written and directed by Anjali Bhushan Mago. Anjali began her career as an assistant director in Karan Johar’s blockbuster ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ over 31 years ago. She is now launching a new production house named ‘Yantra Films’ in collaboration with the famous music duo Meet Brothers. Known for hits like ‘Baby Doll’ and ‘Chittiyaan Kalaiyaan’, the Meet Brothers are stepping into film production with this project.

A standout feature of the film is that its shooting, co-production, and post-production will take place in Cyprus under the ‘CIPA scheme’.

In an interview, Anjali Bhushan Mago shared, “Ishqa is a romantic film that will showcase the various forms of love. Everyone perceives love differently, but ultimately, love is just love. This film is very close to my heart as it captures the emotions, struggles, joys, and pains of relationships. Throughout my career, I have predominantly made romantic and drama films. While I have also worked on action films as a producer, I have high hopes for ‘Ishqa’.”

She added, “The film will feature four distinct love stories, all interconnected by a single narrative. The essence of true love will be beautifully portrayed. In today’s world, people tend to gravitate towards action and drama, but the real strength lies in emotions. If the audience connects with the story and characters, only then does the film resonate.”

Anjali emphasized, “Every person harbors some emotion, and that becomes the real story. A filmmaker’s greatest responsibility is to convey those emotions effectively to the audience. The film industry thrives on emotions, and without them, the audience cannot connect.”

Harmeet Singh from the Meet Brothers also shared his thoughts on the film, stating, “Anjali has a profound understanding of romantic films. While action and thrillers are popular, the love between people is far more essential. However, maintaining that love is not easy. This is why good romantic films are rare, yet those that are made linger in people’s hearts. Anjali and I share a common belief in the importance of love and emotions.”
