Kerala Prepares for International Yoga Day 2026 with Focus on Womens Health

Thiruvananthapuram, May 22: As part of the 32-day preparations for International Yoga Day (IDY) 2026, the Ministry of AYUSH, in collaboration with the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, organized a special program focused on “Yoga for Menopause – A Holistic Wellness Module.” This initiative was led by the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) Kalathipady.

The program highlighted the role of yoga and Ayurveda in enhancing women’s health during menopause and promoting overall wellness. Community members, yoga practitioners, and health experts participated enthusiastically. The event included thematic sessions integrating Ayurvedic principles, classical yoga practices, pranayama, relaxation techniques, and meditation-based approaches for health and wellness during menopause.

The session emphasized menopause as a natural phase involving hormonal, emotional, and metabolic changes. It explained how yoga can aid in physical relaxation, emotional balance, stress reduction, improved sleep, and enhanced quality of life.

Participants were introduced to gentle yoga traditions, including Tadasana, Baddha Konasana, Balasana, Setu Bandhasana, Viparita Karani, and Shavasana, along with pranayama techniques like Nadi Shodhana and Bhramari, known for their benefits in balancing the nervous system and promoting mental well-being.

The program also addressed Ayurvedic perspectives on Vata imbalance and tissue degeneration, emphasizing supportive diets and lifestyles for holistic health. Dr. Malayil Sabu Koshy inaugurated the event, which also featured distinguished guests and speakers from YWCA India, CMS College, and Kottayam Municipal Administration.

This initiative reinforced the role of yoga as a preventive, supportive, and therapeutic medium for women’s health, aligning with India’s broader vision of integrating traditional health systems into community health and lifestyle.
