Mumbai, May 22: Actress Shervani Wagh is thrilled about her upcoming film. While promoting the movie, she shared that she traveled to Punjab with her mother to better understand her character. She expressed her admiration for Punjab’s culture and its people.
In an interview with a news agency, Shervani stated, “My background is Maharashtrian. I wanted to visit Punjab to understand its culture, people, and cuisine. Imtiaz Ali speaks so lovingly about Punjab that I felt I needed to experience it myself.”
She continued, “Hearing Imtiaz talk about Punjab made me feel like I was missing something. So, I took my mother along, and we explored the region, indulged in local cuisine, visited historical sites, and even toured the Partition Museum.”
Shervani described her approach to learning as enthusiastic, akin to a student eager to sit in the front row. “I love taking notes, conducting research, and discovering new things. Before going to Punjab, I told Imtiaz that I needed to visit before reading the script.”
The actress praised the warmth of the Punjabi people, saying, “I did everything there without any research pressure. I just wanted to fall in love with the place, and I truly did. I believe the people of Punjab are among the best in the world.”
In the film “Main Wapas Aaunga,” directed by Imtiaz Ali, Shervani plays the role of a Punjabi woman. Vedang Raina also features prominently in the film.
“Main Wapas Aaunga” is set to release in theaters on June 12.
