
Ahmedabad, May 22: In a stunning display, the Gujarat Titans (GT) triumphed over the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 89 runs in the 66th match of IPL 2026. This victory marks GT’s largest win in IPL history by runs.
Earlier this season, Gujarat Titans had secured an 82-run win against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The performance of the home team’s bowlers was exceptional in this match. Mohammed Siraj and Kagiso Rabada dismantled the CSK batting lineup, which collapsed for just 140 runs. Siraj took 3 wickets for 26 runs, while Rabada also claimed 3 wickets, conceding 32 runs. Rashid Khan contributed significantly as well, taking 3 wickets for just 18 runs.
Chasing a target of 230 runs, CSK had a disastrous start. Sanju Samson was dismissed on the very first ball without scoring. Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad fell victim to Mohammed Siraj after scoring 16 runs off 7 balls. Matthew Short failed to capitalize on a good start, getting out for 24 runs off 14 balls.
Urvil Patel was dismissed for a duck, and Karthik Sharma was run out after scoring 19 runs off 15 balls. Dewald Brevis managed only 8 runs, while Anshul Kamboj contributed 19 runs. Shivam Dube played a remarkable innings, scoring 47 runs off 17 balls, but lacked support from the other end. He hit 4 fours and 4 sixes during his innings.
Earlier, Gujarat Titans posted an impressive total of 229 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in their 20 overs. The innings began strongly, with Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill putting together a partnership of 125 runs for the first wicket in just 12.2 overs. Gill scored 64 runs off 37 balls, hitting 7 fours and 3 sixes, while Sudharsan made 84 runs off 53 balls. Jos Buttler finished the innings unbeaten with 57 runs off just 27 balls, including 5 fours and 4 sixes. With this defeat, Chennai Super Kings have been eliminated from the playoff race.
