The Power of Padmasana: A Natural Remedy for Body and Mind

New Delhi, May 22: In today’s fast-paced world, time is scarce and workloads are heavy, leading to common issues like mental stress and lack of concentration. Amidst this relentless rush, Padmasana emerges as a powerful and natural yoga posture that offers profound relaxation for both body and mind without any frills.

The name Padmasana derives from the word ‘Padma,’ which means lotus flower. This posture is not merely a physical position; it serves as a divine means to alleviate modern life’s mental fatigue and infuse new energy into concentration.

The Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, has commented on its benefits. According to the ministry, Padmasana is a stable and soothing meditative posture that effectively calms the mind, enhances concentration, and awakens inner energy. It is considered a fundamental aspect of yoga practice.

Regular practice of this asana improves blood circulation in the chest, shoulders, and arms, boosts metabolism, and facilitates the smooth flow of prana energy throughout the body. It is regarded as an effective way to awaken inner strength for yoga practitioners.

Performing Padmasana is quite simple. Start by sitting in Dandasana on a yoga mat. Bend your right knee and place your right foot on your left thigh, ensuring the sole faces upward and the heel is near the navel. Repeat the same with your left knee, placing your left foot on your right thigh. Keep your spine and neck straight. Position your hands on your knees in Gyan Mudra (touching the tips of the index finger and thumb together). During practice, avoid forcing your body; always proceed according to your ability.

Avoid this asana if you have injuries or severe pain in your knees, ankles, or hips. Do not attempt to forcefully bend your legs or press your knees to the ground.
