BJD Stands United with the Public Amid Political Differences: Sasmit Patra

New Delhi, March 26: BJD Rajya Sabha MP Sasmit Patra responded to comments made by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Dharmendra Pradhan during an all-party meeting regarding the conflict in West Asia. Meanwhile, SP spokesperson Fakhrul Hasan criticized the government during the discussion.

Patra stated, “The all-party meeting focused on two key issues: India’s diplomatic stance on the West Asia conflict and discussions on energy security, particularly the availability of oil and natural gas in the country. Opposition parties raised several questions on both topics, including India’s role in the West Asia conflict and the domestic availability of petroleum, oil, and natural gas.”

Commenting on Jaishankar’s statements, Patra recalled, “In 1981, when relations between Iran and the United States deteriorated, Pakistan established a small channel for communication with Iran. This channel was used whenever Iran wanted to convey something or when the U.S. needed to communicate through another country. This channel has existed since 1971 and continues to be relevant today.”

He emphasized, “Despite political differences, all parties have shown unity during times of crisis. The BJD and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik stand with the public, setting aside political disputes.”

Patra also mentioned a memorandum of understanding signed for a strategic petroleum reserve in Jajpur district, Odisha. He expressed that the Odisha government, led by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, should have acted with greater urgency. “Having a strategic petroleum reserve is crucial when the country faces a crisis,” he added.

In contrast, SP spokesperson Fakhrul Hasan stated, “The Samajwadi Party participated in the all-party meeting to demand accountability from the government towards the public. Merely convening an all-party meeting is not a solution; the public deserves answers to their questions. The government should address issues such as the shortage of gas, petrol, diesel, and the potential urea crisis in the Lok Sabha. These are pressing problems facing the nation.” He further criticized the BJP government for blaming previous administrations, stating, “The biggest question is, now that you are in power, you must be accountable. You need to explain what happened to the promises you made.”
