Kolkata, May 24: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) won the toss and opted to bowl first against Delhi Capitals (DC) in the final league match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. The match is being held at Eden Gardens Stadium.
After winning the toss, KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane stated, “We will bowl first. We know the conditions well, and the pitch looks good. This is cricket, and we have performed well in the last six matches. We want to continue that here. I am very proud of my team, and we are playing with the same lineup.”
Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel remarked, “Had we won the toss, we would have bowled first as well. We will see how we can improve next season. I don’t think we played poorly, but we missed opportunities that could have changed the match’s outcome. We need to learn from this and move forward. Our team has made two changes.”
KKR currently sits sixth in the points table with six wins out of thirteen matches. If Rajasthan Royals lose their first match on Sunday, KKR will have a great chance to secure a playoff spot, but they must win by a significant margin.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Gujarat Titans (GT), and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have already qualified for the playoffs. Only one spot remains, contested among Rajasthan Royals (RR), Punjab Kings (PBKS), and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
KKR’s playing XI: Ajinkya Rahane (captain), Manish Pandey, Cameron Green, Rovman Powell, Rinku Singh, Tejaswi Dahiya (wicketkeeper), Anukul Roy, Sunil Narine, Saurabh Dubey, Varun Chakravarthy, Kartik Tyagi.
DC’s playing XI: Abhishek Porel, KL Rahul (wicketkeeper), Sahil Parakh, Tristan Stubbs, David Miller, Axar Patel (captain), Ashutosh Sharma, Madhav Tiwari, Akeel Nabi Dar, Mitchell Starc, and Lungi Ngidi.
