New Delhi, May 24: In a bid to enhance road discipline and public safety, the Delhi Traffic Police has initiated a special campaign against the dangerous and illegal practice of wrong-way driving in the National Capital Region. Strict legal actions have been implemented, including filing criminal cases and issuing fines against offenders caught driving in the wrong direction.
Driving the wrong way is not merely a traffic violation; it poses a serious and life-threatening risk to innocent road users. This reckless behavior can lead to head-on collisions, fatal accidents, and severely disrupt traffic flow. Such actions have become one of the primary causes of chaos on the city’s roads.
Recognizing the grave risks associated with this perilous practice, the Delhi Traffic Police conducted intensive enforcement operations on major roads, intersections, highways, sensitive areas, and accident-prone locations across the city on May 22 and 23. During this campaign, a total of 1,170 FIRs were registered, 1,179 vehicles were seized, and 12,568 fines were issued to violators.
Citizens are urged not to take illegal shortcuts by driving on the wrong side, as this may provide short-term benefits but can lead to long-term consequences. Road safety is a shared responsibility, and public cooperation is essential to ensure safe and smooth traffic in the city. The Delhi Traffic Police calls upon every citizen to act responsibly and contribute to making Delhi’s roads safe for everyone.
The Delhi Traffic Police also issues a stern warning to those driving the wrong way, regardless of the reasons behind their actions.
Follow the law—never drive on the wrong side of the road.
