Lucknow, April 8: The leader of the Samajwadi Party, Akhilesh Yadav, has expressed confidence that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will win the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections. He stated that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will not be able to prevent her victory.
Speaking to the media in Lucknow, Yadav emphasized that the people of Bengal will support Mamata Banerjee. He asserted that regardless of any deceit or conspiracy by the BJP, the citizens will defeat the party in the elections.
Yadav also claimed that the BJP has managed to control inflation only until the election results are announced. He warned that prices will rise significantly after the elections.
He highlighted ongoing issues such as the gas cylinder shortage, stating that even when available, they are in limited supply. He pointed out that farmers are suffering and there are insufficient job opportunities for the youth.
Criticizing the Election Commission, Yadav remarked that its role should be to facilitate voting, not hinder it.
Regarding the Women’s Reservation Bill, he noted that the proposed one-third reservation is based on outdated 2011 census data. He questioned the rationale behind using such old figures, arguing that the current demographic reality should be reflected in the reservation policy. He expressed concern that the BJP seems to have predetermined which areas will be reserved for women, and questioned the urgency of this decision rather than waiting for the 2026 census.
On the topic of the ongoing poster war between the BJP and SP, Yadav suggested that the data from the ACRP should be examined to understand the incidents of violence. He pointed out the deteriorating conditions of government hospitals in Uttar Pradesh, where patients are reportedly not receiving adequate treatment. He added that alarming reports have emerged about kidney removals in these hospitals.
